Alice Ann Berres, 88, of Benson, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, in her home. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation continued from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the church. Fr. Brian Mandel officiated. Interment was in St. Malachy Cemetery in Clontarf, Minnesota.
Alice Ann Berres was born July 15, 1936, to Theodore Hubert and Nina Sarah (Newell) Peerboom in Tara Township, Swift County, Minnesota. She was baptized by Fr. Richard King and confirmed at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Clontarf. Alice grew up in Swift County. She attended District #20 Country School in Tara Township through eighth grade, and then graduated from Holloway High School in 1954.
July 13, 1973, Alice married Mathew Berres, Sr. at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf. Fr. John Cooney officiated the ceremony. They were able to share more than 39 years together. Alice was employed at various places through the years. She worked at Viking Café for 12 years, Amoco Food Shop for 17 years, and spent 12 years working at Sandy’s Café. In her free time Alice loved to read, solve all kinds of puzzles, and feed the birds and squirrels.
Alice was called from this life Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her children: Diana Ahrndt of Clontarf, Theodore Doll of Benson, Scott Doll of Benson, Maria Lundebrek of Benson, Vicki Fuentes, of Willmar, Minnesota, Mathew Berres, Jr. (Val Cronin) of Glencoe, Minnesota, Regina (Mark) Whitcup of Benson, and Joseph (Ashley) Berres of Benson; 30 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; brothers Joseph Peerboom of Le Sueur, Minnesota, and Robert Peerboom of Clontarf; sisters Delores Beyer of Cross Lake, Minnesota, and Mary Sachs of Appleton, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Mathew Berres, Sr., parents Theodore and Nina Peerboom, son Todd Doll, daughter Susan Miller, son-in-law Elias Fuentes, grandson Trevor Ahrndt, and infant grandson William Lundebrek. She was also preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Vinge and husband Omar Vinge, sister-in-law Polly Peerboom, and brothers-in-law Merlyn Sachs and Dick Beyer.
