Bernard “Bernie” Fjordbak, 66, of Benson died on Wednesday February 19, 2020 at Meadowlane Rehabilitation Healthcare Center in Benson. Visitation will be held Friday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, March 14 from 9-10 a.m., followed by the 10 a.m. Funeral Service, at First Evangelical Free Church in Benson. Clifford H. Hanson, age 91, of Maple Lake, died Friday, February 21, 2020 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., with Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake. A private burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Creek Township.

Stephanie Glenee Wordelman

Stephanie Glenee Wordelman of Riverwood in Port Charlottte, FL, passed away on Feb. 18, 2020 at the Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale, MN after a short stay. The hospice stay followed a courageous 9 month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia involving a stem cell transplant at the University of Minnesota BMT. She was born in Minneapolis on April 24, 1947 to Francis (Fritz) and Audrey Tyra.

Benson girls raise winning streak to six before losing at Melrose Area

The Benson girls basketball team won its fourth, fifth, and sixth-straight games last week before losing at Melrose, Friday, 66-60.  The Braves opened up last week with a 72-48 win against YME last Monday night, and then won at Osakis last Tuesday (64-58) before winning at MACCRAY, Thursday (56-44).

The Braves are 15-10 overall and 6-8 in the WCC with one regular-season game to go Monday at home against Hancock.

Benson earned the fourth seed in its half of Section 3AA and was set to open up the playoffs, Saturday at home against fifth-seeded Minnewaska Area.   The Braves split with the Lakers this season, losing at Minnewaska Area, but winning at home against the Lakers, Feb. 7.  If Benson wins that game, it would face top-seeded NLS in the next round...

Enderson goes over 1,000 during home loss to Tigers

The Benson boys lost twice last week, dropping the Braves’ overall record to 14-9 heading into the home stretch of the season.  The Braves beat Yellow Medicine East last Monday night at home, 70-66, but then lost at home to Melrose last Tuesday, 68-51, and to Morris Area, Thursday, 80-70.

The two losses gave Benson a 5-6 record in its last 11 games after the Braves were 9-3, Jan. 9.

This week, the Braves close out the regular season with a game at Hancock, Tuesday (yesterday), a home game with Lac qui parle, Thursday (tomorrow), and a game at Melrose, Friday.

During last week’s action, Will Enderson became the seventh boy at BHS to reach 1,000 career points.  He earned his 1,000th point with a three-pointer late in the game against Morris Area and ended the game with a game-high 28 points.

MBA boys open up playoffs with victory

The MBA boys hockey team closed out the regular-season with a split of games against Breckenridge-Wahpeton last Tuesday night (7-3 sin) and Becker-Big Lake, Thursday (6-5 loss).

The Storm earned the seventh seed in the Section 6A Tourney and opened up the postseason with a 4-2 win over 10th-seeded Wadena-DC, Saturday in Benson.

MBA, which improved to 20-5 overall, was set to face second-seeded Alexandria, Tuesday (yesterday).

In 25 seasons of Benson and MBA boys hockey, no team had earned 20 victories until this season...
