Cross-country teams both second at opening meet at Minnewaska

The Benson-KMS cross-country teams competed in their first race of the season last Tuesday at the Minnewaska Golf Club near Glenwood.

The Benson-KMS cross-country teams opened up the fall practice schedule Monday, Aug. 17, at Ambush Park, and continued to practice each day to prepare for the season opener at Minnewaska Area.

Back to lead the team are head coach Samantha VanHeuveln and assistant coach Bjorn Bakke, who lost only two seniors to graduation (Will Magaard and Allie Mitteness) although they were both among the leaders for their respective teams.

Both Benson-KMS cross-country teams placed second as Minnewaska Area won both meets by six points over the Benson-KMS boys and by 15 points over the Benson-KMS girls.  Morris Area-CA placed third in both events...

A look at football seasons from the past

During the months of September and October we’ll be running weekly results of Benson and KMS High School football from years gone by.  It’s not the same as an actual season, but it will help provide a little football for BHS and KMS football fans to help them get by the fall season, while also giving people a chance to revisit the names of Saints and Braves who have played for the two schools in the past.

And so, enjoy a little football from the past.  We’ll try to mix up the years each week so that most of the graduating classes at Benson and KMS have their chance in the spotlight.  We’ll also include the final record for each season...

Benson-KMS girls tennis team drops to 0-2 with 6-1 loss to Osakis

The Benson-KMS girls tennis team fell to 0-2 for the season with a 6-1 loss to Osakis in the home opener last Tuesday night in Benson.  The Fighting Braves were also set to play at Montevideo, Thursday, but that meet was postponed as Montevideo High School deals with COVID-19 issues.
Benson-KMS is set to host two matches this week, beginning with a match against Lac qui Parle/Dawson-Boyd, Tuesday (yesterday) and against Yellow Medicine East, Thursday (tomorrow).

Benson-KMS went 9-9 overall last season, including a 5-3 mark within the WCC.  The new coach this year is Coleton Anderson.

Minnewaska Area won last year’s WCC title with a perfect 8-0 league mark, followed by LQP-DB (7-1), Montevideo (6-2), Benson-KMS (5-3), Melrose Area and YME (both 3-4), Morris Area-WCA (2-6), Sauk Centre (1-7), and MACCRAY (0-8).
