Nancy Y. Alsaker

Nancy Yvonne Alsaker, 59, of Benson, Minnesota passed away Sunday morning, January 24, 2021 under hospice care at her home near Benson. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Rice Hospice.

Nancy Yvonne Alsaker was born March 11, 1961 in Willmar, Minnesota the daughter of Harris “Bill” Willard Jr. and Helen Mae (Anderson) Linder. She was baptized April 9, 1961 at Bethel Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert Pearson and November 7, 1976 she was confirmed at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar.  She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar Senior High School May 31, 1979.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from the University of Wisconsin - STOUT,  August 5, 1983.

SWIFT COUNTY BOARD MINUTES January 5, 2021

County Auditor Kim Saterbak called the organizational meeting to order at 9:00 AM with all Commissioners present as well as Administrator Kelsey Baker, County Attorney Danielle Olson, Sheriff John Holtz, Amanda Ness and Terri Orr.
Auditor Saterbak asked for nominations for Chair of the Board. Commissioner Rudningen nominated Commissioner Fox. Auditor Saterbak asked for additional nominations.  
01-05-21-01 Commissioner P. Peterson moved nomination cease and a unanimous ballot be cast and Commissioner Hendrickx seconded.  Motion carried unanimously and Commissioner Fox was named Board Chair for 2021. (Resolution No. 21-01-01)
Auditor Saterbak asked for nominations for Vice Chair of the Board. Commissioner P. Peterson nominated Commissioner Fox. Auditor Saterbak asked for additional nominations.

The organizational meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Brian Samuelson.
Members present:  Paul Carruth, Mary KW Langan, Bill McGeary, Brian Samuelson, James Berens, Eric Peterson and Gary Williams (virtual).  Members absent:  None
Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Mike Knutson, Garrett Schmidt, Katie Foley, Lori Eix, Julie Loen, Amanda Carruth.
Brian Samuelson led the four newly elected members in the Oath of Office:  Mary KW Langan, Bill McGeary, Gary Williams, Eric Peterson.
Organization of School Board:  Brian Samuelson elected Chairperson, Gary Williams elected Vice-Chair, Mary KW Langan elected Clerk, Bill McGeary elected Treasurer.
School board meeting schedule approved as presented for 2021.
Swift County Monitor-News designated as the official newspaper.

Gymnasts open up season with win

The Benson-KMS gymnastics team opened up the season with a dominating win at Long Prairie-GE, Friday.  The Fighting Braves placed 1-2-3 in the all-around and scored 128.275 points to easily top LPGE.

Libby McGeary, who qualified to state last year as a freshman, won the all-around with a total of 34.975, while her teammates, Makenna Kelley (31.95) and Torie Andrews (30.65) placed second and third, respectively.

Benson-KMS is set to compete at Morris Area, Friday.  The Fighting Braves are still hoping to get into their new home at the Benson Athletic Center for the home opener, Friday, Feb. 19 against NLS...

Braves fall to Melrose Area in home opener

The Benson boys basketball team fell to 0-2 with a 75-55 loss at home to Melrose Area, Friday night.  The Dutchmen stormed out to an early lead of 20-2 and led 48-18 by halftime before the Braves came roaring back in the second half.

The Braves hope to pick up win No. 1 this week with home games against Clinton-GB, Thursday (tomorrow) and Montevideo, Friday.

This year’s Benson boys basketball varsity roster includes seniors Ben Peterson, Abe Peterson, Cole Hedman, Sam Lenarz, Sam Grussing, Matt Laumeyer, Pat Minchow, and Austin Grube; juniors Brandonn Traut, Dylan Ascheman, Isaac Minchow, Chaden Carroll, and Jalen Anderson; sophomore Juan Espinoza; and ninth-grader Blake Brehmer...
