Arlene Beyer, 90, of Fairfield Township, died Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Appleton Area Care Center, in Appleton, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Pastor Michelle Rowell will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Moyer Township.
Arlene Ann Beyer was born January 24, 1934, at the family farm in Moyer Township, Swift County, Minnesota, to Harry Alfred and Olga Bertha (Suckow) Arnold. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moyer Township. She attended country school at Swift County District 97 in Moyer Township through eighth grade and graduated from Holloway High School in 1951.
December 7, 1952, Arlene was united in marriage to Marvin Carl Herbert Beyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They raised four children on their farm where Arlene helped with milking, tending hogs, tending chickens, growing a garden, mowing lawn (at top speed), and other chores.
From 1964-1968, Arlene served on the school board of Swift County District 2209 in Fairfield Township. Arlene owned and operated The Fabric Shop in Appleton from 1978-1995. She had a keen interest in writing and wrote the “Fairfield/Hegbert News” and “Arlene’s Hodgepodge” columns for the Appleton Press. In her retirement years, Arlene worked at Prairie Five and volunteered at the Swift County Museum and the gift shop at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Arlene was an active lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She passed her love of sewing, quilting, card making, reading, and crafts of all kinds on to her descendants. She enjoyed doing things with her friends and family, be it work or play.
Arlene had attained the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 17 days.
She is survived by her children: Beverly (Ken) Wise of Rochester, MN, Dean (Shari) Beyer of Holloway, MN, Rachel (Perry) Eisert of North Mankato, MN, and Susan Blesi of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by her brother Willard (Doris) Arnold of Appleton, sister Yvonne Ward of Montevideo, MN, and sister-in-law Gladys Beyer of Morris, MN. Additional survivors include 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, March 9, 2000; parents Harry and Olga Arnold; infant brother Milton, brothers Leland Arnold and Vernon (Joan) Arnold, and sisters Shirley (Archie) Tallman and Ruby (Jerry) Halvorson.
