Saints edge Braves in two OT’s, 34-28

 

Both teams had their chances, but only one team would leave the Murdock football field as the winner and the other was destined to leave disappointed.

The Benson Braves rallied from an early 15-8 deficit to go up 28-22, but the KMS Saints rallied with a late touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Caleb Collins to Weston Gjerde to tie up the score and then scored the winning touchdown in the second overtime when Collins ran around right end from the three-yard line on fourth down, giving the Saints the hardearned 34-28, double-overtime victory.

Total yardage for the game was fairly close as KMS held a 336-253 advantage in total yards, but Benson got 155 of its yards on only three plays and was held to just 98 yards in its other 41 plays combined.

Also helping the Braves stay in the game were turnovers as KMS completed 3-of-9 passes, but the Saints also threw two interceptions and also had a fumble in the end zone during the first overtime.
