Irena F. Canon
November 22, 1920 - March 11, 2018

Irena F. Canon, 97, of Benson died Sunday, March 11th at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar.  Visitation will be Thursday, March 15 from 4-7:00 pm at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with a service at 5:00 pm.  Spring burial in Benson City Cemetery.  www.hafh.org

Irena Florence Canon was born on November 22, 1920, in Benson, the daughter of Walter and Rosa Mae (Hamner) Smith.  She grew up in rural Benson and attended Six Mile Grove township school.  She was united in marriage to Orman Canon on December 17, 1939 on her parent’s farm.  The couple farmed in rural Benson.  Orman passed away in 1987, Irena continued to live in the Benson area, she moved to Willmar in 2011.

She was a member of the Congregational Church in Benson, active with Ladies Aide.  She was also active with the Farmer’s Union, Mother’s Club and Homemakers.

Irena enjoyed gardening, canning and occasionally wall papering for friends.  She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends.

She is survived by her children: Sharon (and Jerry) Dahl of New London, Roger (and Mary Ann) Canon of Willmar; five grandchildren: John (and Cindy) Dahl of New London, Ryan (and Becky) Canon of Clearwater, Holly (and Ryan) Koosman of Willmar, Jessica (and Joe) Delzer of Spicer, Jeremiah (and Jen) Dahl of New London; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by husband Orman and one brother and one sister.
