Claire Ricard (11), taking a shot against NLS, was named to the All-Conference and All-Area honorable mention teams for 2017-18.

The Benson girls basketball held its season-ending awards banquet, Sunday night, recapping the 2017-18 season in which the Braves went 5-22 overall and 2-12 in the WCC.

The Braves earned an early 59-36 victory over Paynesville, and then ended the season with four wins in its last 14 games.  The five victories is the most for the Benson girls basketball program since 2012-13 when the team went 7-18.

Benson earned the seventh seed in its half of Section 3AA and the Braves were eliminated in a close game with second-seeded NLS, 61-49.  NLS went on to lose to EV-Watkins in the sub-section finals (44-27), and EVW was edged by Tracy Area in the Section 3AA title game, 49-48.

Sauk Centre won the league title with a 14-0 record, followed by BOLD (11-3), Morris (9-5), Melrose and Minnewaska Area (both 8-6), ACGC (3-11), Benson (2-12), and Montevideo (1-13).

Benson sophomore Claire Ricard was named to the 18-member All-WCC girls basketball team for 2017-18, while sophomore Kaitlyn Berreau earned recognition on the honorable mention team.

Sauk Centre had five players named to the All-Conference team, while BOLD and Morris Area each had three, Minnewaska Area and Melrose both had two, and Benson, ACGC, and Montevideo each had one....
