Katie Krieger earned All-Conference honors for KMS this season.

Katie Krieger and Madison Rohner were the top scorer and rebounder, respectively, for the KMS girls basketball team in 2017-18.  Krieger scored 336 total points, averaging 12 points per game, while Rohner pulled down 167 rebounds, just under seven rebounds per game for the Saints, who ended the season with a 7-21 overall record.

At the season-ending banquet this past weekend, Krieger was named the MVP for the KMS girls in 2017-18, and also earned the Miss Hustle Award.

Rohner meanwhile, earned the Defensive MVP Award, while sophomore Morgan Lesteberg was named the Offensive MVP.

In addition, senior Dacotah Rohner earned the Most Improved Award and also received a Senior Plaque, while junior Mallory Rudningen earned the Saints’ Award.

Serving as captains this year, and received captains’ plaques at the season-ending banquet were Dacotah Rohner, Krieger, and Rudningen.

KMS, coached by Brady DeBaere, Dwayne Riley, and Philip Hauge, was also 4-12 in the Camden North Conference to finish fourth of six teams.  Lac qui Parle won the league title with a 14-2 record, followed by MACCRAY (11-5), Dawson-Boyd (6-10), KMS (4-12), Prinsburg CMCS (3-13), and RCW (1-15).

The Saints, who lose just one player (Dacotah Rohner) to graduation, started the season off with five losses, but then went 3-2 over a five-game span to raise their record to 3-7.  The Saints won just one game over the next 11 games to drop to 4-17 before ending the season with three wins in their final seven games.

Victories this season came over Prinsburg (46-45), RCW (57-33), Heron Lake-Okabena (66-34), Buffalo Lake-HS (51-37), Dawson-Boyd (66-56), Prinsburg CMCS again (53-49), and Onamia (55-38).

The Saints were seeded ninth in Section 5A and upset the eighth-seeded Onamia team in the first round before falling to top-seeded BBE in the sub-section quarterfinals, 64-39.

Menahga went on to earn the Section 5A title with a 56-52 win over BBE, but Menahga lost both of its game at state....
