GREGORY E. FISCHER
June 5, 1960 - January 21, 2018

A Celebration of Life service for Gregory E. Fischer of Brighton, TN (formerly of the Benson-Willmar area) will be held July 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, Minnesota.  Greg will be laid to rest in Aitkin near his beloved grandparents, July 5, 2018.

Gregory Eugene Olson Fischer, 57, was born  June 5, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Sherman and LaVay Olson.

He was baptized at the EUB Church in Norcross and was confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran in Benson.  He attended elementary schools in Watertown, Willmar, New London-Spicer and Benson.  He graduated from Benson High School in 1978.  

While in high school, Greg enlisted in the Army National Guard.  He attended college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Morris as well as Bemidji State University for Computer Science.  He enlisted for active duty in the Army in 1984 and was honorably discharged in 1988.  He worked in Willmar at a 3M subsidiary following active duty.  

Greg moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1998 and began working for the US Postal Service, where he put in 20 years of service working as an Electrical Technician.  

Greg loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Tennessee and taking road trips to Minnesota to visit.  Greg was soft spoken with a heart of gold.  He was diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2017 and passed away  January 21, 2018.  

He is survived by his mother, LaVay (Jarl) Borresen, Spicer, brothers: Neil (Sherrie) Fischer, Munford, TN and Steven (Kathleen) Fischer, Horace, ND, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Olson, and his grandparents.
