The KMS Saints earned a 28-12 win over Kimball Area in the Section 4A semifinals, Saturday in Murdock, advancing the Saints to the section finals set for 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 at St. John’s University against second-seeded Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity.

Last year, the sixth-seeded Saints upset third-seeded LP-HT in the opening round of the section tourney, 26-7, before falling to second-seeded Mayer Lutheran in the semifinals, 42-7.

Kimball Area did its best to keep 2,000-yard rusher Dylan Rudningen in check, but it forgot about the KMS passing game, which came through with four passing touchdowns, including three from quarterback Alex Call to Titian Norton.

Kimball Area, which fell to KMS earlier this season 45-33, held leads of 6-0 and 12-7, but the Saints scored the final three touchdowns of the game to rally for the win.

Should KMS get past the Section 4A championship game, it would earn a berth in the State Football Tournament.  The Class A quarterfinals are set for Saturday,  Nov. 10, and the Saints would open up play against the winner of the Section 3A Tourney at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 at Shakopee West High School.

Murray County Central is the top seed in Section 3A with a 8-2 record, and it will face third-seeded Springfield (6-4) in the 3A finals this Friday.

The state Class A semifinals are set for 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at U.S. Bank Stadium, and if KMS made it this far, it would play the winner of the Section 7A and 8A matchup.  Mahnomen-Waubun (9-0) is the top team from those two sections, is ranked third in state, and is one of only six undefeated teams in Class A.

The 2018 MN Prep Bowl is set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24 at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Class A title game is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24....
