Gracie Lenz was selected as the MVP for the Benson-KMS girls tennis team after leading the team with a 19-4 record playing mostly at second singles and some first doubles.

The Benson-KMS girls tennis team had a great season in 2018, finishing the year with a 14-4 overall record, which included a 7-1 mark within the WCC to finish second behind Minnewaska Area (8-0).

Sauk Centre was third in the WCC (6-2), followed by Montevideo (4-4), LQP-DB, Morris Area-WCA, and Melrose Area (all 3-5), YME (2-6), and MACCRAY (0-8).

In the Section 6A Tourney, the third-seeded Fighting Braves shut out Yellow Medicine East in the first round, 7-0, before being blanked by second-seeded Osakis in the semifinals, 7-0.

Osakis went on to beat Minnewaska Area for the section title, 4-3, before going 1-2 at the state tournament to finish sixth overall.

“Osakis is a very good team and they were just better than us despite the fact that we played as well as we have all year,” Benson-KMS coach Don Brehmer said.  “Osakis really came on strong this season and that showed when they upset Minnewaska Area in the team finals, 4-3.”...
