School Construction:  Discussion continued on the construction team for the school project with goals to keep the project on schedule, on budget, and provide quality control throughout the project. Discussion with 14 other school districts experiencing recent construction processes provided a consistent recommendation of one construction management company. The board will interview this company on December 4. If hired, this company would start immediately, working directly with the architects during the preconstruction phase.
The board approved to move forward with an RFP for a construction manager and interview Breitbach Construction Company for Construction Management Services.
Severance:  Funds are assigned to cover the severance obligations to teachers hired prior to 7/1/95. As severance eligible staff have retired, the severance liability has reduced, so the fund balance can be reduced from $265,000 to $100,000. Approved to set the assigned severance amount in reserve to $100,000 for FY19.
World’s Best Workforce (WBWF) Summary:  By MN statute, Benson Schools must complete and submit a WBWF summary for the 2017-2018 school year.  There are five required goal areas: 1) Kindergarten Ready; 2) Read at Grade Level by 3rd Grade; 3) Close the Achievement Gap; 4) College and Career Ready; 5) Graduate All Students. The district met 3 of 5 goals for the school year. Due to the dedicated work by every staff member in the district, Benson Schools reached a 100% graduation rate. There will be a public hearing on the WBWF summary after the December 17 regular meeting, as required by law.
