MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Tuesday, December 4, 2018 – 5:30 p.m.
Benson High School Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Paul Carruth, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Mary Langan, Bill McGeary, Chad Payne, Eric Peterson, Gary Williams.
Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Dave Benson, Pam Anderson, Reed Anfinson, Mike Thompson, James Berens, Brian Samuelson, Paul Youngquist, Ryan Breitbach, Adam Breitbach, Rob Koenig, Courtney Cook, Cory Braaten.

Additions to the Agenda: Civic Center; Remove 3rd Grade Presentation
No citizens comments.
Acceptance and Oath of Office:  Eric Peterson signed and accepted the Benson School Board Oath of Office.
Approved Agenda.

Construction Management:  Ryan Breitbach, Adam Breitbach and Rob Koenig of Breitbach Construction Company (BCC) in Elrosa, MN were interviewed for the construction manager position for the construction project. Paul Youngquist, ARY Architect, also commented. After discussion the board approved to enter into a Construction Management-Agency contract with Breitbach Construction Company for the school construction project.
Gym Bids:  Bids for the new gym remodel project were accepted in November and Breitbach Construction Company came in with the low bid. The board accepted the Base Bid, Alternate #1 (backstops), and Alternate #2 (bleachers) from Breitbach Construction (BCC) in the amount of $569,000.
Civic Center:  The board discussed road blocks with building codes, permits and added expenses for the north end of the civic center. Due to these issues it was recommended to end the lease with the City of Benson. The board approved to cancel the civic center project and make a request to the City to terminate the lease agreement.
Truth in Taxation Hearing: Business Manager Dave Benson presented budget and levy information during the Truth in Taxation Hearing.  No citizen comments. Levy Adoption is Monday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m.
Industrial Tech Presentation:  Doug Manzke demonstrated equipment and displayed projects completed.
Kindergarten:  Cory Braaten and Courtney Cook gave the board an update in their Northside classrooms.
