Boys tennis team opens up season with 6-1 victory over Montevideo

Hunter LeClair opened up the season with a three-set win at fourth singles for the Benson-KMS boys tennis team, Friday.

The Benson-KMS boys tennis team opened up the season with a 6-1 win at home against Montevideo, Friday afternoon.  Benson swept the four singles’ matches and also picked up wins at first and second doubles.

The Braves, coming off a 2-11 season from a year ago, return seven players from last year who saw action on the varsity.

Benson-KMS, coached by Jonas Grossman and junior high coach Don Brehmer, was set to play at Minnewaska Area, Monday, in a match moved up a few days due to the upcoming winter storm watch. 

The Fighting Braves were also set to host Foley, Tuesday (yesterday) and host Milbank, SD, Friday.

This year’s Benson-KMS boys tennis team, coached by Jonas Grossman, includes senior Eric Hoium; junior Kyle Reese; sophomore Peyton LeClair; ninth-graders Taylor Duncan, Tyler Hadfield, Andrew Olson, Matthew Thompson, Dylan Maus, Mason Bakke, and Jacob Garies; eighth-graders Spencer Schackman, Stephen Orsten, and Hunter LeClair; and seventh-graders Max Young, Blake Brehmer, Joey Pagel, and Logan Schauer.

Minnewaska Area won the league title last year with a 5-0 conference record, followed by YME (4-1), LQP-DB (3-2), Benson-KMS (2-3), Montevideo (1-4), and MACCRAY (0-5)...
