The Benson baseball team opened up the 2019 season with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Yellow Medicine East, Friday night on Chiefs’ Field in Benson.  The Benson baseball team is hoping for a turnaround season this year after going 2-16 overall the last two seasons, including going 2-12 in the WCC.

Mark Grussing takes over as the new head coach of the Benson baseball program as former head coach Eric Hulterstrum left the school district after last school year.

“I’m very excited about taking over as head coach of the baseball team,” coach Mark Grussing said.  “It’s been a fun group of guys to work with this spring.”

The complete Benson varsity baseball roster for 2019 includes seniors Jared Knutson, Matthew Goossen, Matt Lenarz, Matthew Ebnet, and Alex Wrobleski; juniors Will Enderson, Jayden Bailey, Matthew Tolifson, Ross Metz, Jacob Wolter, and Jacob Fath; and sophomores Patrick Minchow, Sam Lenarz, Corbin Holmquist, Josh Norby, Sam Grussing, Cole Hedman, Kellen Schmidt, and Matt Laumeyer.

Members of the Benson JV baseball team are six members of the varsity team -- sophomores Corbin Holmquist, Matt Laumeyer, Cole Hedman, Sam Grussing, Josh Norby, and Kellen Schmidt -- along with sophomores Trey Smith, Jordan Anderson, and Zach Rosen; and ninth-graders Isaac Minchow and Dylan Ascheman.

This week, weather permitting, the Braves were set to host BOLD, Tuesday (yesterday), play at Montevideo, Thursday (tomorrow), and host KMS, Friday...
