Kyle Edward Opoien

November 15, 1965- April 18, 2019
Kyle Edward Opoien, 53, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2019 at his home in Miami.

A memorial in his honor will be held  Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota.

Kyle was born November 15, 1965 in Benson to L. “Jerry” and Connie (Brown) Opoien.  He grew up as an Army Brat moving to several places, including Germany.  Kyle was able to experience a “real” bullfight in Spain, nearly lost his life on a Mediterranean Beach before being saved by a stranger and told stories of swimming with poisonous snakes in the Chattahoochee River.  When he was a teenager, his family moved back to Benson, where he attended Benson High School. Kyle moved to St. Cloud  after high school where he lived for many years while raising his daughter, Heather.  He worked for Herbergers, Fingerhut and also with different companies in the construction industry building homes and apartment complexes.  He was a very skilled handyman and could build or fix anything.

Kyle met the love of his life, Lexi in 2010 and they married January 12, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.  Kyle and Lexi moved to sunny Florida in January 2015 where they lived until his passing.

Kyle was a proud and fun loving father to Heather.  When she was a child, he would take her sledding, snowmobiling and even built an ice rink in the back yard to teach her to ice skate.  Kyle’s nieces and nephews loved his goofy laugh and how he was always up for a good kickball or baseball game in the back yard.

Some of his favorite things were road trips with his family, Geocatching with his wife Lexi, camping and having a good bonfire.  He had a great taste in music or as he would call it his “tunes” and knew the lyrics to almost every song.  He was also a very passionate Minnesota Vikings fan and would never miss a game, even while in Miami.

Kyle is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Alphonse Schwitalla and nephew, Mark Macy Dineen.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alexis (Lexi) Opoien of Miami, FL, daughter Heather (Bob) Roseland of St. Joseph, Minnesota, parents L. “Jerry” and Connie Opoien of Benson, step children Jennifer (Peter) Cerda of Miami, FL, Jesse (Mari) Bouchard of Miami, FL and Jillian Bouchard of Monticello, GA;  siblings Jody (Randy) Sauls of Benson, Marty (Rhonda) Opoien of Starbuck, Tammy (Dean) Thompson of Benson; grandchildren: Lyla, Knox and Emery Roseland, Emily and Kinsey Cerda and Jesse James Bouchard II; his dog Gooder and his many nephews and nieces.
