John James “Jim” O’Connor, 87, of Benson, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in St. Cloud.  Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.  Visitation continued from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church.  Interment was in the church cemetery. 

John James “Jim” O’Connor was born November 7, 1931, in Benson, the son of John and Ethel (McQuaid) O’Connor. He grew up and attended grade school in Benson. He graduated from Benson Senior High School.  He served in the United States Army from May 28, 1953 to May 27, 1955.

November 30, 1957, Jim was united in marriage to Betty Jeane Suflow at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff, by Monsignor Trainor. This union was blessed with over 61 years of marriage and three children. They made their home on the farm in Swenoda Township. Jim farmed, drove semi with Carl and John Jergenson in his early years, mowed lawns for turkey barns, worked at Red Ball, and delivered fertilizer for Cenex.  He enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and cards, and square dancing. He enjoyed watching College and Pro Baseball, Football and Basketball. Jim loved going to Sandy’s for coffee and getting all the farming news. He was called from this life  Tuesday evening, May 14, 2019, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He attained the age of 87 years, six months, and seven days.

Jim is survived by his children, Paul (Angela) O’Connor, of Burnsville, Pamela (Kevin) Larson, Kalispell, Montana, and Timothy O’Connor of Benson; two grandchildren, Zachary O’Connor and Alyssa O’Connor; siblings: Margaret Shekleton of New Hampton, Iowa, Pat (JoAnne) O’Connor of Davenport, Iowa, and MaryAnn (Richard) Hawkins of St. Paul; and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jeane March 21, 2014; parents, John and Ethel O’Connor; mother and father-in-law, Grace and Ervin Suflow; brothers-in-law, Jack Shekleton and Robert Suflow. Blessed be his memory.
