Robert Petersen, 93, of Glenwood, Minnesota died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.

Robert was born May 22, 1925 in Montevideo, the son of Ludvig and Margarethe Petersen. He was baptized at home. The family later moved to Benson where Robert grew up and attended school. He later served his country during WWII in the United States Navy where he earned his GED while in the service. After his service, he attended trade school and then became a machinist.

He married Mary (Wright) in 1954 in Minneapolis. They moved to Osseo where Robert worked for Northern Pump. The family later moved to Mounds View and he worked for Kurt Manufacturing for many years and retired in 1988.  Robert and Mary then moved to Glenwood on Lake Minnewaska where he fished for many years.  In addition to being an avid fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting and trap shooting. He was a member of the White Bear Gun Club and the Glenwood Gun Club. Robert and Mary enjoyed traveling to Massachusetts to visit his grandchildren. They also traveled to Nevada, California, Alaska, Canada and Europe. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at the lake and taking them fishing and boating when they came to visit in the summer. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and his friends.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary; his children Lori and Nancy (Paul) Kesseli of Worcester, Mass; his grandchildren, Erin and Matthew, his sister Inga Fabry of Oakdale, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eiler (Vera), Louis (Mary), Donald (Rita) and Erik, his sisters, Ellen (Clifford) Skarsten, Margaret (Steve) Stepanich and Dorothy (Sylvester) Steffl.

Interment will be held at a later date at Little Falls Veterans Cemetery.
