KMS softball team wins first two section games

The KMS softball team opened up the Section 3A Softball Tournament with a pair of wins in Murdock, Thursday night.  The opening rounds of the tourney had been set for last Tuesday, but were pushed back two nights due to weather.

KMS beat RCW in the first round, 15-0, and then defeated Dawson-Boyd in the second round, 10-4.  The Saints advanced to the upper-bracket semifinals to face Wabasso, Saturday in Marshall.

The Saints opened up the section tourney with a 15-0 rout of Renville County West.  The game lasted just four innings due to the 10-run rule as KMS scored seven in the first, six in the third, and two more in the fourth.

Katie Krieger, Maret Gjerde, and Haylee Johnson had two hits each to lead the KMS offense.  Krieger was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, while Gjerde was 2-for-3 with a run, and Johnson was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs, and three RBI.

Krieger spun a no-hitter to earn her 10th victory of the season.  She struck out eight and the Saints did not commit any errors, meaning it was also a perfect game.  Krieger also pitched a perfect game, May 13 against Lakeview...
