Benson celebrates 89th annual Kid Day this weekend

Benson’s 89th annual Kid Day officially takes place this Saturday and Sunday, however, activities for the community event are also planned throughout the week.

The theme of this year’s Kid Day is “Celebrating Kids”.

•  The Kid Day Medallion Hunt started Monday and continue each day through Friday,or until the medallion is found.  The clues are available daily on the front door of the Benson Library, on KSCR from 7-9 a.m. each day, and on the Benson Kid Day Facebook page.  The top prize for the youth who finds the Kid Day medallion is $100.

•  Krazy Daze in Benson is set for Thursday with local businesses offering sidewalk sales and special offers.  Look for ads in this week’s Monitor-News for great Krazy Daze deals.

Also Thursday is the Mayor’s Mingle at McKinney’s. It is a fundraiser for Beautify Benson project that includes the flower pots placed on streets in the business areas of the community and for the hanging plants along the streets. The event starts with a  social hour form 6:30-7:30 p.m, followed by a dinner at 7:30 p.m., Nashville singers, Jeremy McComb and Rick Huckaby,from 8-11 p.m., and a silent auction from 6:30-8 p.m.

Tickets are available at Breen’s and the Benson City Office.

•  DeMarce Theatre will be showing a free matinee movie at 2 p.m., Friday with a small popcorn and small pop also free, courtesy of the City of Benson.  This year’s movie is “Sing.”

Friday night, from 8 p.m. to midnight, Patrick’s Bar and Grill is hosting the band “Wondercure” for a street dance...
