Kerk Legion splits with Benson and EVW

The Kerkhoven Legion split a pair of games last week, winning at Benson last Monday night, 7-2, but also falling at Eden Valley-Watkins, Thursday, 6-5.

Weston Gjerde and Cade Melin had two hits each during the win over Benson, while Christian Diederich was 2-for-4 with three RBI against EVW.

Kerkhoven improved to 2-4 overall with the win and loss with the playoffs set to begin this week.

•  This year’s Kerkhoven Legion baseball roster, coached by Justin Johnson, includes Wylee Lottman, Dylan Rudningen, Alex Call, Hunter Wilts, Brett Brendemuehl, Isaac Call, Brody Forsell, Brad Wilke, Cade Melin, Weston Gjerde, Devon Swanson, Christian Diederich, Chris Moist, Regan Carlson, Noah Thorson, and Levi Sweere.

Kerkhoven 7, Benson 2

The Kerkhoven Legion baseball team rallied for a 7-2 win at Benson last Monday night, scoring one run in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings, and then scoring five runs in the ninth for the victory.

Kerkhoven scored once in the first inning, but Benson scored twice in its half of the first to take a 2-1 lead which stood up through the first six innings.

Kerkhoven finally got the tying run in the seventh to send the game into extra innings, and then scored five runs in the ninth thanks to a walk, hit, and three players who were hit by a pitch.

Benson lost despite outhitting Kerkhoven 10-8.  Benson hurt itself by issuing seven walks and hitting three batters...
