MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota Monday, June 17, 2019 - 5:30 p.m. Benson Senior High Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Brian Samuelson.  Members present:  Jim Berens, Paul Carruth, Mary Langan, Bill McGeary, Eric Peterson, Brian Samuelson and Gary Williams.

Members absent:  None.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Mike Knutson, Katie Foley, Pam Anderson, Kendra Razink.

Approved Agenda moving Negotiations Strategy after Donations and Future Meetings.

No citizens comments.

Approved consent agenda as presented.

Progress Reports were presented by administrators.

Construction Update:  Progress on Bid Pkg. #1 is underway with asbestos being removed and demolition starting next week; July 15 is site excavation, prep work for the new auditorium and north of the high school and security fencing installation later this week; Northside specs/drawings were released. Pre-bid meeting June 18, bid opening June 27.

FY 20 Budget:  By statute, the school board must adopt a preliminary FY20 budget before July 1.

Approved the Preliminary FY20 Budget with $11,643.900 in revenues and expenses of $11,834,652.

Resolution Announcing Availability of Positions: One Ag Class each semester and one semester of College Composition Class are available for student registration if the resolution is passed.

Approved the available positions as listed on the Resolution Announcing Availability of Positions for .1 FTE Agriculture and .05 FTE English.

Fees:  Discussion took place regarding the cost of fees, activity fees and athletic passes for 2019-2020.  The proposed fee increases help set off the increase in the cost of supplies as well as credit/debit card fees. Discussion was held about the possibility of making all Benson K-12 students and senior citizens free to attend activities.

Tabled the decision to have the Activities and/or Budget Committee(s) look at options and present in July. 

PK-6 Student Handbook:  Brad went through changes for the 2019-20 handbook. First reading, no action.

7-12 Student Handbook:  Mike Knutson reviewed changes to the 2019-20 handbook. First reading, no action.

School District Policies:  A proposed plan to go through the process of updating district policies was presented.

Donations:  None.

Closed session at 6:55 p.m. to discuss negotiations strategy. 

The board came out of closed session at 7:53.

Meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
