Before Swift County’s Board of Commissioners can decide whether or not it would like to see the Prairie 5 Food Shelf and clothing facility go into the former Lewis Drug store, it has to learn more about its future building needs.

Commissioner Pete Peterson, District 3-south Benson and Torning Township recently met at the building on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Benson with Swift County Rural Development Director Jennifer Frost, Prairie 5 County Director Angela Nissen, Region Prairie 5 Executive Director Deb Larson and County Administrator Kelsey Baker.

The county used the building on Benson’s north main street from July 2017 to April 2018 for administrative operations while extensive renovations were underway in the courthouse. When its employees returned to the courthouse it decided to continue to rent the 6,200 feet of office space as potential temporary offices should it move ahead with plans for construction of a new justice center...
