Loran Cyril Matteson, 71, was born August 7, 1947 at Sisseton, SD to Myron and Mardella Bonzelet Matteson.

Anita Louise Matteson, 78, was born March 1, 1941 to Norman and Ellen Reddekopp in Tillamook, OR. 

Anita passed away July 15, 2019 from lung cancer at Chahalem Health and Rehab Center in Newberg, OR.  Loran passed away at the same facility eight days later, July 23, 2019, from a heart attack and lung cancer.  Loran and Anita resided in Salem, OR.

Loran attended Rosholt Public School, Rosholt, SD, from grades 1-9.  The family moved to Benson in 1962.  Loran graduated from Benson High School, Benson, Minnesota, in 1965. He served in the US Air Force from 1966-1969, where he was trained in crash and fire rescue control and jet mechanics. He served one year in Libya, Africa. He was a member of the reserves for two years.


He was married to Jacqueline Weathers of Salem, OR in 1971. They later divorced.  He has one adopted daughter, Kelly Rae Weathers Matteson. 

Loran owned and operated the Auburn Arco Station for seven years.  He was a co-owner of a commercial fishing boat and went salmon fishing on the Pacific Ocean for four years.  Loran joined his fishing partner in the gas station business until Loran had a stroke in March of 2010.

He married Anita Louise Campbell Nye,  October 20, 1989, in Reno, NV.  Anita was raised and received her education in Cloverdale, OR, and graduated from Nestucca High School in 1959.  She attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem, where she received her associate degree in business. 

Anita had been widowed twice.  She had two children, Tamara (Tami) Campbell and Thomas Nye. Tamara married Brian Eggman (both deceased).  Anita was employed as an accountant/bookkeeper at Mountain Fir Lumber Company in Independence, OR, for several years and as trucking office manager at Freres Bros. Lumber Company in Lyons, OR, for many years.  Loran and Anita retired in June, 2011.  They were members of Bent 8 Car Club.  They traveled in Canada and Alaska in 2011.  They made numerous trips to Minnesota to visit family.

Loran is survived by his mother, Mardella Matteson of Benson, his sister and brother-in-law, Lynne and Ronald Orvik of Benson, daughter, Kelly Matteson Hill of Salem, OR, two nephews and a niece and their families in Minnesota, and numerous other relatives. He is preceded in death by his father, Myron Matteson.

Anita is survived by her son, Thomas Nye, of Eugene, OR, her sister and brother-in-law, Cathie and Terry Barth, of Hillsboro, OR, her grandchildren, David Eggman & Jerad Eggman of Newport, OR, her three great grandchildren, Josephine, Gracie and Cayden and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Ellen Reddekopp, her daughter, Tami Eggman, and her two brothers, Gene Reddekopp and Norman Reddekopp, Jr.

Memorial services in Oregon will be held at a later date.
