SCBHS takes next step to affiliate with Carris Health

Swift County-Benson Health Services will consider signing a non-binding letter of intent to pursue affiliation through a lease with Carris Health at a special meeting set for next Tuesday. Carris is a subsidiary of CentraCare serving west central and southwestern Minnesota.

At the 5:30 p.m. meeting at SCBHS, the governing board will be asked to sign the letter of intent, which begins the process of developing the details of how the lease relationship would work. Essentially it would mean that Carris would take over operations of the facility while SCBHS still owned its current physical assets.

The governing board also had the option of selling SCBHS to Carris, but complications with the refinancing of bonds issued by Swift County in recent years to help with expansion of the facility may prevent that option. However, it could be pursued in the future when the issue with the bonds is resolved...
