For the second week in a row, the Braves had a big play for a touchdown early in the game, but this time, Parkers Prairie was able to rally for a 30-20 win at home over the visiting Benson Braves last Wednesday night.

Mason Abner returned a fumble 63 yards for the opening score, giving Benson an early 8-0 lead only 5:01 into the game.

The Braves still led 14-8 after one quarter, but Parkers Prairie, which improved to 5-3 overall, went on to outscore Benson 22-6 the rest of the way.

Hurting the Braves were four sacks for minus-46 yards and three interceptions.

The Braves had a chance to tie it up with 2:35 left in the third quarter when Will Enderson and Ben Peterson teamed up for a 79-yard touchdown pass, but the Braves failed to add the two-point conversion and Parkers Prairie would go on to score the final touchdown.

“This was a good, physical football game and both teams made some good hits and battled to the end,” coach Adam Foslien said.  “We had a chance to win a meaningful football game in  week eight in the fourth quarter, and you have to credit the guys for the effort they showed.

“We also had a great crowd from Benson at the game so it was nice to have great support from the home fans.”

Benson ended the regular-season with a 2-6 overall record, including a 2-5 mark within the Mid State Blue division.  The Braves earned the sixth seed in Section 4A and are set to open up the tournament at 7 p.m., Tuesday (yesterday) at third-seeded Upsala-Swanville Area (at Swanville), which beat the Braves earlier this year on Brock Field, 40-6...
