Saints win quarterfinal match, but fall to BBE in Section 5A semis

The KMS volleyball team reached the Section 5A semifinals before losing to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Thursday at Little Falls, 25-12, 25-23, 25-18.  BBE went on to beat Walker-Hackensack Area for the section title two nights later in a five-game thriller.

The Saints, who ended the season 17-12 overall, beat Benson in its first section match in four games and also routed Browerville-Eagle Valley in three games last Tuesday night at Long Prairie-GE High School, 25-14, 25-12, 25-7 to reach the semifinals.

The Saints were seeded second in its “pod” of Section 5A.  BBE goes into the state tourney with a 21-8 overall record.

“We were playing our best volleyball in the playoffs and that’s what you work for all season,” coach Joquel Molenaar said.  “Benson was such a tough match in the playoff opener and we were happy to get by them, but you always want more.

“We played outstanding volleyball against Browerville-EV, but looking at the BBE match, we knew it was going to be tough.  It was a definitely a tough loss for the team, especially knowing we could have done more...”
