Bruce S. Loen, 78, of Benson, Minnesota, died Thursday evenig, November 7, 2019 at his home in Benson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The family asked that you bring a donation for the food shelf in lieu of flowers.

Bruce Stanley Lamahr Loen was born October 27, 1941 in Benson, Minnesota the son of Stanley Invold Loen and Alice Elizabeth (Atchison) Loen.  He grew up on the farm in rural Benson and was baptized December 24, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed June 10, 1956 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church. He attended Country School near his home before attending Benson schools and later attended School of Agriculture in Morris and later electronic school in Kansas City, Mo.

December 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Lee at the Lake Hazel Lutheran Church.  This union was blessed with over 52 years of marriage.  Bruce worked as a civilian at Fort Walton Beach Air Force Base, FL until he returned home to farm for his mother-in-law where he farmed from 1967 to 1984; he worked for Foslien Custom Harvesting 1985-1987; Haugen Implement and Agvise Laboratory; 1990-2007 he worked for Chamberlain Oil Company driving truck and warehouse until his retirement.  He continued to work after retiring  at Runnings  from 2007 until Thursday 2019, and at the Benson Public schools driving bus 2012-2019.  

Bruce was involved in 4-H, showing beef cattle and cooking projects.  He was a chartered member of the Benson FFA Alumni Chapter. He served on the Elevator Board  and was involved in Our Redeemer’s Choir, Church League Softball and Men’s Softball League.
He enjoyed his farming days and raising huge pumpkins on the farm, then when moving to town raising a garden to share with friends and neighbors.  He loved playing cards, Lawn Jarts, horseshoes, dice games, but best he loved going to visit friends and family.  He taught Sunday School and was a youth advisor at Our Redeemer’s for over 18 years. Bruce attained the age of 78 years and 11 days.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy (Mark Erickson) Loen and son Jeff Loen; granddaughters Jordan and Rylee Erickson; brother Allen (Diane) Loen all of Benson. Sisters: Connie (Tim) Kavanaugh of Brainerd; Sandy Grendahl of Prior Lake; Patricia Carlson of Apple Valley; Diane (DuWayne) Melberg of Holmes City; and Colleen ( David) Johnsrud of Starbuck  and a sister- and brother-in-law Patricia and Rolfe Gomer of Benson. 
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (2016) and his parents Stanley and Alice Loen.
