Karen Marie Mooberry Mills, 77, of Chickamaw Beach, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly December 25, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minnesota.

Karen was born November 12, 1942 to Bernard Mooberry and Marie Larsen Mooberry in Benson, Minnesota. Karen helped to work on the family dairy farm until she left for nursing college in Minneapolis. It was there that she met the love of her life Michael Mills and the two were married June 27, 1964. She became a mother to daughter Sandra Marie Mills March 14, 1965. Karen spent over 20 years as the spouse of a US Naval officer and traveled the states and beyond in this role until settling down in retirement in Chickamaw Beach.

Karen was a remarkable woman. Fiercely independent and incredibly bright.  She worked as an RN and her preference was to dedicate herself to geriatrics, her co-workers and patients alike praised her caring and professional manner. Her talents were many. She was an incredible gardener, she painted, she did intricate needlework, she was musical, an avid reader and crossword puzzle addict. It was in her love for her family that she shone brighter than ever.   Her grandchildren Jacob, Libby, Thomas and Sam were so very blessed to grow up knowing her love, time and attention. Her siblings, her nieces and nephews – all given a love beyond measure. She and Mike celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past June. A woman truly a testament to the power and longevity of love.

Karen is survived by her husband Michael John Mills, her daughter Sandra Marie Mills and spouse Matthew Sandell, her grandchildren: Thomas Michael Grissom and Samuel Robert Grissom.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Marie Mooberry, her sister Kerry Mooberry Fragodt and her grandchildren Jacob William Grissom and Elizabeth Marie Grissom.

Karen’s wishes were clear that she did not want a funeral. There will be a private family burial in the spring of 2020.
