Doris O. Gjerdingen, 94, died on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Willmar. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Rolling Forks Cemetery rural Swift Falls. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home.

Doris Oleanna Iverson Gjerdingen, was born on May 31, 1925, at the family home in rural Brooten, Minnesota, the daughter of Knute and Dathilda Olson Iverson. She was baptized by the Rev. Beito at Lake Johanna Township and she was confirmed by the Rev. Beito at St. Pauli’s Lutheran Church. She grew up on the farm in Swift County and attended school in De Graff and Swift Falls.

 

On December 5, 1944, Doris was united in marriage with Harris Jerome Gjerdingen. This union was blessed with more than 71 years of marriage, two children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. They farmed in Rolling Forks Township until retirement in 1990 and moved to Willmar in 1999. She worked as a waitress in Benson for several years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, dancing, playing cards, having coffee with her lady friends. She was a member of the Swift Falls Charity circle. She was called from this life on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020, at Bethseda Nursing Home in Willmar, Minnesota. She attained the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 21 days.

 

She is survived by her children, Donald Gjerdingen of rural Starbuck, and Dawn Platt of Willmar; grandchildren: Ross (Heather) Gjerdingen, Jory Gjerdingen, Justin (Alissa) Platt, Jennifer (Jon) Lankenau, and Joshua (Madison) Platt; great-grandchildren: Bailee and Morgan Gjerdingen, Odin Gjerdingen, Jaylyn and Jordyn Platt, and Jackson and Jameson Lankenau; her sisters Adeline Suter of Willmar and Shirley Jacobson of Coon Rapids; and several other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her Husband Harris on July 10, 2016, her parents Knute and Dathilda, a sister Amy Hill, brothers, Ole, Ivel, and Clifford Iverson, and a daughter in law Linda Gjerdingen.
