More help is on the way for businesses that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the business shutdowns and slowdowns it has caused in the form of $10,000 grants.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) announced late last week that the Minnesota Small Business Relief Grants Program would begin accepting applications as of Tuesday, June 23. The application process will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 2 to fulfill the 10-day period required by the law.

A randomized, computer-generated lottery process will be used to select eligible businesses that will receive awards.

The program was funded by $60 million from the federal CARES Act, and $2.5 million from DEED’s Emergency Loan Program.

This program provides $10,000 grants to small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees. Half of the funding will go to businesses in Greater Minnesota and half to businesses in the seven-county Twin Cities metro area, as required by law.
