Benson pursuing options on development director

Benson has four options if it is serious about pursuing retaining an economic development director, City Manager Rob Wolfington told the council at its Monday night meeting.
It can hire an employee, engage the services of a non-profit company that specializes in economic development, pursue through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA,) or pursue a partnership with the Swift County Rural Development Authority or Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission.
Hiring an employee would require the city to pay public employee scale wages and benefits, he said. It could also complicate the city’s ability to cut the position in the future...
