The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) has funded an award for Federal assistance from the City of Benson to construct a Wastewater Treatment Facility Flood Control Berm and wastewater mainline sewer improvement project in the City of Benson, Swift County Minnesota for the purpose of protecting the facility that sits directly adjacent to the Chippewa River from flooding. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, EDA has conducted an environmental assessment (EA) of the project.
The project is to construct a flood control berm around the Benson Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 200, 22nd Street South, Benson, Minnesota and to replace an 8” mainline sewer west of the Minnesota DOT Bridge on Minnesota Trunk Highwat-9 in Benson, Minnesota.   The wastewater protection berm project will be located at 200 22nd Street South, Benson, Minnesota.   The wastewater protection berm project will be located in the floodplain adjacent to the Chippewa River in Benson, Minnesota.  The FEMA D-FIRM Map Panel is 27151C0278C, effective 2/16.2006.  The mechanisms to be utilized to mitigate the impacts of the EDA Project is to seek approval of a FEMA no rise certificate to insure floodwater will not be displaced by the construction of the project.  Project information is available for review at City Hall, 1410 Kansas Ave, Benson, Minnesota or contact the City Manager at 320-843-4775.
If you have any information regarding potential environmental impacts associated with this project or if you would like a copy of the EA, please provide comments or request in writing to:
