Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Benson City Cemetery will be at a later date.

Robert (Bob) Lynn Hoiland, passed away unexpectedly February 18 at his home. He was born November 20, 1952 to his parents Ruby (Darling) Hoiland and Leonard Hoiland of Benson who have since preceded him in death.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Tim) Boorse, granddaughters: Kiley and Sawyer, brothers: Doug and Joel; four nieces and two nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews; former wife Jane Noack Hoiland, her son’s, Jason and Cory and their families, along with many cousins and friends.

After graduating Benson High School in 1971, Bob received a Diploma from Hanson Mechanical Trade School for Auto & Diesel. He then worked a year in the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in New Mexico.

Bob was quite the free spirit and carpenter; always building, creating and mastering the art of wood and leather. From his handmade wallets to the furniture that he’d repurpose, his initials or a simple peace sign were his way of leaving his mark on the pieces he would create. He also had a love for nature: gardening, flowers, bird watching and fishing, numerous camping adventures and road trips with the landscape photographs and rocks from the rivers to mark the joy he had for the outdoors.

Bob had a generous heart and a kind gentle soul. Bob adored his daughter and granddaughters and he was never one to show emotion but everyone knew just how much he adored his girls. Bob is an ageless hippie with a rock’n’roll heart and a never-ending hope for peace.

Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is in charge of the arrangements.
