Badly needed rains dent drought

Finally, the Benson area saw a much needed rainfall. It came in a gentle three-day soaking that parched soil eagerly absorbed.
Just over 2 inches of rain was measured in Benson from Nov. 8 to Nov. 11. It was 8 tenths of an inch more than the 1.24 inches that fell in September and October combined.
A few gentle snowflakes drifted in the air Sunday, but Monday morning revealed a landscape gradually turning white as 1.5 inches of snow fell by noon. That snowfall brought an additional 13 hundredths of an inch of moisture.
