Benson Braves wrestling wins Wabasso triangular

The Benson wrestling team was in action twice last week and finished with a 2-1 record. The team started with a narrow 40-36 loss to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in Benson Jan. 7. The Braves were able to shake off that loss and won the Wabasso triangular Jan. 9 with a 35-33 win over Wabasso and a 44-29 win over Sibley East.

The Braves wrestling team lost a heartbreaking match against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa when they hosted the Jaguars in Benson. The dual meet went back and forth between the teams, but the Jaguars were able to pick up a four-point team win over the Braves.
BBE immediately jumped out to an 11-0 advantage with a pin and a tech fall win at 107 and 114 pounds. Benson came back with two straight pins at 121 and 127 pounds. Sam Svingen pinned Jude Thompsom at 121 pounds and Gavin Olson pinned Noah DeRoo at 127 to give Benson a 12-11 lead.
BBE jumped back in front with a pin at 133 pounds, but Benson jumped back in front when Max Nygaard pinned Louie Tensen to make it 18-17.
The see-saw battle continued with BBE picking up a pin at 145 pounds, but the Jaguars left 152 pounds open to allow Benson to stay in front 24-23.
BBE then earned a pin and tech fall win at 160 and 172 pounds to go ahead 34-24 with just three matches remaining.
