Benson/KMS gymnasts start season with two wins

The Benson/KMS gymnastics team kicked off another season last week with two meets. The team earned a dual win on the road against Maple Lake Dec. 3 and then earned a win at the Morris Invitational Dec. 7.

Coming off a competitive and successful season a year ago, Benson/KMS hit the ground running this year with their season opener against Maple Lake. As a team, Benson/KMS swept each of four events and had 18 of the 20 top-five individual finishers.
Benson/KMS dominated on the balance beam with the top five scores. Sophie Hilleren won the event with an event score of 9.075. Lexi Hoberg and Gwen Wilcox both finished with the second best score of 8.55. Taylor VanHeuveln came in fourth with 8.1 and Mya McGeary came in fifth with 7.95.
Another clean sweep came on the floor for Benson/KMS. Wilcox had the top score of 9.2, Hilleren was second with 8.55, Hoberg finished third with 8.375, Carly Tolifson was fourth with 8.225 and VanHeuveln was fifth with 8.15.
Benson/KMS finished with four of the top five scores on the vault. Jada O’Leary won the event with an event score of 8.9. Wilcox finished third with an 8.65, Hoberg came in fourth with an 8.6 and Sophie Hilleren came in fifth with 8.55.
It was four of the top five scores again on the uneven bars. Wilcox won the event with a score of 8.15. Third place went to Hoberg with her score of 7.6. Tolifson was fourth with 7.35 and Jada O’Leary was fifth with 7.2.
Wilcox and Hoberg were the two Benson/KMS gymnasts in the All-Around competition. Wilcox won with a total score of 34.55 and Hoberg was second with 33.125.
