Braves place third in WCC and earn third in upcoming Section 5A Tournament

The Benson wrestling team went 2-2 to close out the final week of the regular season.  The Braves opened up last week’s action with a third-place finish at the WCC Team Tournament, beating United (39-32) and Morris Area (84-0), while also losing to eventual champion ACGC (54-15).
Benson, which finished the regular season with a 12-9 overall record, also wrestled at BBE, Friday, losing to the Jaguars 40-32.
Benson did earn the third seed in the upcoming Section 5A Team Tournament.  As expected, Long Prairie-GE-Browerville was seeded first, followed by Minnewaska Area, Benson, BBE, KMS, and Paynesville.  The seedings were determined before BBE edged Benson, Friday night.
The Braves guaranteed themselves the first winning record in wrestling since 2008-09 when team went 9-8, and this is only the fourth time in the last 23 years where Benson has had a winning record.  This is also the first time since 1996 where Benson was seeded in the top three in the section tourney, which was the first year of the three-class system...
