CVEC seeks Benson land for solar project

Installing a solar panel field will help the Chippewa Valley Ethanol Company (CVEC) better position itself for sales in a market that is becoming increasingly conscious of the carbon footprint its suppliers leave.

To install the solar field it is considering, CVEC General Manager and CEO Chad Friese told the Benson Economic Development Authority (EDA) it will need to lease some land from the City of Benson.

“We’ve been looking at it, honestly, for many, many years,” he said. “Things keep coming together where it continues to make good sense. We are really looking at it as a carbon intensity piece. With solar, renewable electricity, we know we can trim our carbon intensity score.”
