Filings for city councils and school boards open Tuesday, Aug. 2 and close Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Last November, the voters of the City of Benson approved a charter amendment moving its elections from odd numbered years to even numbered years. The city had been conducting its elections for the mayor and council members in odd numbered years since 1965.
It was a move to align the city’s elections with those of the state and federal governments. In the process, it would see improved voter turnout and reduce the cost of conducting elections.
