Harold Habben broke the single season rebounding record for Benson in a game against Ortonville in Benson.

During Benson’s pigtail playoff game against the Ortonville Trojans, Harold Habben made Benson basketball history. He broke a season rebounding record set by Dick Hawkins in the 1964 season. With the season now complete, Habben now holds the record with 295 rebounds in a single season.
Hawkins was a 1964 graduate of Benson High School and died in 2005. Hawkins led the Braves to their first State tournament back when there were not four classes and Benson would be playing larger schools.
Sixty years ago, Benson took down Starbuck, Elbow Lake, Wheaton, Glenwood and Brainard to make it to state for the first time.
