MBA Storm on either end of two one-goal games

The MBA boys were on the road for two games last week and picked up a win and a loss. First, the team was on the road against Wadena-Deer Creek and in a high-scoring affair, MBA picked up a 6-5 win Dec. 10. Three days later, the Storm were back on the road in Paynesville to play River Lakes. In an overtime thriller, River Lakes scored late in overtime to hand the Storm a 3-2 loss, giving MBA a 2-5 record through seven games.

The Storm picked up their second win of the season in a high scoring showdown on the road against Wadena-Deer Creek. With 11 goals between the two teams, MBA scored two goals in the third period to come away with a 6-5 victory.
The Storm did not waste much time and Chase Baker scored a goal off an assist from Dane Dybdahl just 75 seconds into the game. WD-C came back with a goal of their own with 11 minutes left in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.
The Storm jumped back in front with two goals in the first four minutes of the second period. Zach Wrobleski scored off a Kye Suess assist and Connor Hadfield scored unassisted to make it 3-1. WD-C responded with two goals to tie it up at 3-3. The Storm got back in front when Bryce Lehman scored a power play goal with assists from Alex Claussen and Wrobleski to make it 4-3. Before the end of the second, WD-C tied the game at 4-4 heading into the final third period.
The Storm fell behind for the first time in the game when Wadena-Deer Creek scored just short of two minutes into the third period. MBA only trailed for 15 seconds of game time when Suess scored off assists from Wrobleski and Claussen to tie the game at 5-5 with 15 minutes left in the game. The score stayed locked until Wrobleski scored the game winning goal off an assist from Lehman with two minutes left to give the Storm a 6-5 victory.
Wrobleski led the team with four points including two goals and two assists. Suess and Bryce Lehman both added two points with a goal and an assist. Alex Claussen chipped in with two points with two assists. Connor Hadfield and Baker each finished with a goal and Dybdahl had one assist.
In net, Gavin Schmidt saved 30 of the 35 shots he faced for a .857 save percentage.

The MBA Storm boys hockey team was on the road last week as they traveled to Paynesville to take on the River Lakes Stars. The Storm went into the game with a 2-4 record for the season. The Storm was missing defenseman Bryce Lehman in Friday's game.
With the game underway, the Storm’s offense came out strong, holding the puck in the Stars zone. The Storm’s defense was also very strong with goalie Gavin Schmidt stopping many shots from the Stars. With five minutes left in the first period, the Stars managed to get one past Schmidt, taking the lead 1-0. With nine seconds left in the first period, the Stars were called for a two minute minor, giving the Storm their first powerplay in the game. With a penalty this late in the period, the Storm would start the second period with five on four powerplay. Period one ended with a lead from the Stars, 1-0. The Stars had 19 shots on goal and the Storm had seven.
