Janice Gades, October 26, 1937 • March 19, 2023

Janice Gades, 85, of Danvers, Minnesota passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, in the Appleton Area Health-Care Center. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fairfield Township. Pastor Jason Wolter will officiate.

Janice Ruth Gades was born October 26, 1937, at home in Marysland Township, Swift County, Minnesota, to parents Gerhardt and Mildred (Mesenbrink) Suckow. She was baptized November 28, 1937, by Rev. A.R. Wachholz and was confirmed May 13, 1951, by Rev. J.G. Bangert, both at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Janice was raised on the family farm north of Holloway in Moyer Township. She attended Country School through the sixth grade and then attended school in Benson, where she graduated from the Benson High School, Class of 1955.

June 22, 1957, Janice was united in marriage to Lyle Ernest Gades by Rev. H.W. Krull, also at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple lived near Danvers where they raised their five children: Russell, Linda, Bryan, Roxanne, and Kent. During her working years, Janice was employed at Fingerhut and Future Products in Benson. During her retirement  she cleaned at Northrup King in Danvers and some custom home cleaning. She was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson where she was a past member of the Choir and the Quilting Club. In her younger years, Janice was very active with the local Homemakers group. Janice enjoyed cross-stitching, quilting, gardening, playing cards with friends, fishing, and watching ball games (especially the MN Twins!).

Janice passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, in the Appleton Area Health-Care Center. She attained 85 years, four  months, and 23 days of age. Janice is survived by her children: Russell (Sheri) Gades of Danvers, Linda (Doug) Weis of Lake Lillian, Bryan (Annette) Gades of Ghent, Roxanne (Don) Kraft of Correll, and Kent (Molly) Gades of Danvers; her seven grandchildren: Alycia Flannigan, Nathan Gades, Amanda Kraft, Evan Kraft, Preston Kraft, Pieper Gades, and Burke Gades; her great-granddaughter, Evalyn Kraft; her siblings: Myrna (Joe) Sandberg of Burnsville, Cheryl (Walt) Halberg of Ramsey, Lonnie (Lavonne) Suckow of Seattle, WA, Arden Suckow of Apple Valley, Dawn Mantei of Apple Valley, and Lyndon (Joyce) Suckow of Cottage Grove; her sister in law, Lydia Peterson of Hutchinson;  and her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Gades in 1989; her parents, Gerhardt and Mildred Suckow; brothers: Darwin (Pat) Suckow, Warren (Bonnie) Suckow, Alton Suckow; parents-in-law, Gust and Emma Gades; sisters-in-law, Ethyl (Alvin) Krupke, Bernadine (Lawrence) Rohloff; Florence (Stanley) Winter, Mardell (Kenneth) Arnold; and brother-in-law, Trixie Peterson.
