Joan Dorcus Bock, 88, of Leesburg, Virginia, formerly of Swift Falls, Minnesota, died November 24, 2022, in Leesburg, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls, Minnesota.
Joan Dorcus Grussing was born October 5, 1934, the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Mathieson) Grussing in Camp Lake Township, Minnesota. She grew up in rural Swift Falls and attended school in Benson, Minnesota, graduating from Benson High School in 1952. Joan went on to further her education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Joan met her future husband through mutual friends while on a “girls’ trip” to the southern California area. He had recently left the United States Navy Seabees in San Diego, California. June 23, 1956, Joan married Carl G. Bock at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls. Joan and Carl had three children and six grandchildren.
Over the course of her life, Joan lived not only in Minnesota but also in California, Virginia and New Mexico, but her heart was always in Minnesota. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, reading, and most of all, her cats.
Joan is survived by her children: Eric (Katie) Bock, Helen Bock Webster, and Jon (Linda) Bock; grandchildren: Jacob (Danielle) Bock, Jonathan Webster, Ivan Bock, Peter Bock, and Joseph Bock. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Bock, father Harry Grussing, mother Hazel (Mathieson) Grussing, stepmother Doris (Bentley) Grussing, sister Shirley (Wickum) Grussing, brother Kenny Grussing, and grandson Alec Webster.
Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.
