Funeral services for Joann M. Munsterman of Morris, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Rev. Reed Stockman will be officiating.  A visitation will be Friday, from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. A time for sharing will take place at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Joann Marie (Amundson) Munsterman was born May 18, 1940, in Big Bend, Chippewa County, Minnesota to Raymond and Winifred Amundson. She was baptized June 6, 1940, at Big Bend Lutheran Church and confirmed June 12, 1955 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota.

Joann attended Benson Public School, graduating with the class of 1958. She then went on to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and U of M Morris.

August 20, 1960, Joann was united in marriage to Donald Munsterman at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. They shared 62 years of marriage. The couple were blessed with three sons: Scott, Troy, and Chad. They also welcomed 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Joann spent 26 years in the banking business and four  years at Munsterman Accounting and Tax. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, and enjoyed bowling on the Bank Team. Above all, Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her spare time, Joann liked playing cards. She inspired everyone with her playfulness, sense of humor, and how she made every person feel so special. She especially loved playing practical jokes. In the summer, one could often find Joann spending time in the sun with a good book. While not outside, she loved doing needle work. She knitted afghans for friends and family and lap blankets, that were eventually boxed up and taken to the veteran’s home in St. Cloud. Joann also embroidered hundreds of dish towels that she loved to gift.

Together, Don and Joann enjoyed relaxing at the lake cabin and traveling with their motor home throughout the United States, Canada, and Alaska. Joann also loved being a snowbird the five years she and Don spent in San Tan Valley, Arizona during the winter.

Joann was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and entered West Wind Village  October 7, 2015. She passed away  February 12, 2023; she was 82 years and nine  months old.

Joann is survived by her husband, Don Munsterman of Morris; sons: Dr. Scott (fiancé, Kelly) Munsterman of Brookings, South Dakota, Troy (Lori) Munsterman of Morris, Dr. Chad (Lori) Munsterman of Brookings, South Dakota; grandchildren: Jennifer (Trevor) Seales, Heather (Morgan) Holler, Nicole (Sam) Nail, Ashley Munsterman, Michelle Munsterman, Dr Amy (fiancé, Ezekiel) Munsterman, Mitchell Munsterman, Matthew (fiancé, Marissa) Munsterman, Ray (Dr. Kendra) Munsterman, Holly Munsterman, Cassie Munsterman; great-grandchildren: Jake, Heidi, and Macy Seales, Farrah, Naomi, and Scarlett Holler, Jema Chase, Raelyn, Vada, and Braidey Nail, Finley Munsterman; sister, Marci (Butch) Steinhouse; brothers-in-law: Welton Dokkebakken, Walter (Adel) Munsterman, Richard (Karen) Munsterman; sisters-in-law: Diane Schuerman, Dr. Debra Munsterman, Carol (Duane) Dahl, Beverly (Greg) Higdon; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Winifred Amundson; sister, Diane Dokkebakken; in-laws: Walter (Mable) Munsterman, Mary Jeanne Mahoney Munsterman, Joan (Vernon) Arnold, David Schuerman, Robert Munsterman.

The family prefers memorials to be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.
