Katie Elizabeth Hughes, 63, passed away Saturday evening, January 21, 2023, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. Visitation was held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota, followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 p.m. Interment was in the Church of the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Danvers.

Katie Elizabeth Hughes was born June 29, 1959, in Benson, the daughter of Charles and Betty (Fennell) Hughes.  She was baptized July 5, 1959, at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers, Minnesota by Fr. Joseph Esser.  Katie’s Godparents were Gerald (Jerry) Hughes and Peggy Fennell.  Katie was raised on the family farm by Danvers.  She attended Danvers Elementary school from grades 1-6.  Katie was confirmed into the Catholic faith October 22, 1973, at the Church of the Visitation by Bishop Alphonse Schladweiler.  She attended High School in Benson and graduated in the class of 1977.  Growing up, Katie helped take care of siblings, did farm work, baked, and gardened.

In September of 1978, Katie enrolled in the Secretarial program at the Willmar Vo-Tech for two years.  Katie was a long-time employee in the 1980’s at the Jennie-O Turkey Company in Willmar.

In September 1987, she was married to Mark Paulson.  After leaving Jennie-O Turkey she began working as a CNA at the Appleton Nursing home until 2012. In 2012, Katie lost her long time fiancé Guy Senske.  At the time of Katie’s death, she was working at the Monte Market in Montevideo, Minnesota, which she really enjoyed.  Katie enjoyed many activities such as gardening, mowing, dancing, singing, and spending time with friends and family.   Katie had many things she loved, but most of all she loved her cats, they were her family.

Katie passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the Montevideo Hospital.  She attained 63 years, six months, and 23 days of age.  Katie is survived by her siblings: Mark Hughes of Danvers, Pat (Karen) Hughes of Holloway, Tony (Monique) Hughes of Benson, Betsy (Mark) Rode of Glenwood, Jenny (Mike) Schafer of Willmar; nephews: Jaron Hughes, Justin Hughes, Matt Rode, Ben Rode, Eric Hughes and one niece: Alyssa Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Hughes, and her fiancé Guy Senske.
