The Kimball Cubs proved why they are the reigning district champions after a 54-6 victory over the Benson Braves football team in the season opener Friday, Sept. 2, at Brock Field in Benson.
“It all starts up front, and Kimball controlled the line of scrimmage all night,” Benson coach Adam Foslien said.
Kimball opened the game with four straight scores, building a 32-0 lead by early second quarter.
“For all but three guys, this was the first varsity experience, and now they can get that out of the way,” Foslien said. “There’s a reason Kimball is the defending district champs and one of the favorites this year, that’s a good football team.”
Andy Becker led the ground attack with the Cubs with 112 yards on 12 carries. Defensively, the Cubs held Benson to just 77 yards of total offense.
Thomas Dineen led the attack with 95 yards on 11 carries, scoring the lone touchdown in the second quarter for the Braves.
