LuElla K. Young, 88, of Benson, Minnesota, died on Friday evening September 27, 2024, at the Cura Therapy Suites in Willmar, Minnesota. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Kerkhoven.
in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Best Life Ministries or the Gideons.
LuElla Kathleen Young was born June 25, 1936, on the family farm in rural Clara City, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Ella Eckhoff Doesken. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. She grew up in Clara City and then the family moved to Kerkhoven where LuElla graduated from the Kerkhoven High School in 1954.
August 22, 1958, LuElla was united in marriage to Russell Rudningen at the Bethany Reformed Church. This union was blessed with three children. They lived in Kerkhoven where she worked as a bookkeeper for the following businesses throughout her career: S & L in Willmar, The Farmer’s Elevator, the Kerkhoven School, Simmonds Produce, Family Services, Boonstra, and Freetly Electric. On July 22, 1989, her husband Russell passed away.
LuElla married Donald Young on February 14, 1993, at the Kerkhoven Presbyterian Church. They lived on a farm south of Benson. This union was blessed with over 30 years of marriage.
She was a member of the Swift County Historical Society Board, the Kerkhoven American Legion Auxiliary, the Gideons Auxiliary, secretary at Farm Bureau, DHIA, and the Best Life Ministry and the Church in the Grove Bible Study.  She was a very active member of the Kerkhoven Presbyterian church where she was involved in the Presbyterian Women’s Association, was an ordained Elder, served as Treasurer for many years, taught Sunday School and taught Dale’s confirmation class when the Pastor became ill. She enjoyed reading, doing word search, crossword puzzles and Sudoku puzzles. She was passionate about attending Bible Study. LuElla was called from this life Friday evening, September 27, 2024, at Cura Therapy Suites in Willmar. She attained the age of 88 years, three months and two days.
She is survived by husband Donald of Benson; children:  Daniel (Denise) Rudningen of St. Cloud, Leah (Michael) Young of Sunburg, Dale (Nicole) Rudningen of Frankfurt, Germany, Tom (Kristin) Young of Bird Island, and Douglas Young of Benson; grandchildren: Dana (Trevor) Robinson, Demi Young, Renee Young, Paul (Codi) Young, Jordan Rudningen, Hannah Rudningen, Grace Rudningen, Noah Rudningen, Brady Young, and Chase Young; great grandchildren: Teller, Blakely, Walker, Eddison, and Everett; sister Mary Ahrenholz of Clara City; and several other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Russell Rudningen; her parents Harry and Ella Doesken; sisters Gloria Hartlep and Dorothy Ordahl; and a grandson Peyton Young.
