McGeary, Hoberg lead BKMS gymnasts to win over Marshall

The Benson-KMS gymnastics team opened up the season with a 136.1-117.85 home victory over Marshall last Tuesday night at the Benson Athletic Center.  The Fighting Braves also competed at the Morris Invitational, Saturday, placing second of four teams in a meet won by section rival New London-Spicer.
Libby McGeary won the all-around during the opening meet and also placed third at Morris with Alexis Hoberg finishing in fourth.
The team was set to host Litchfield, Thursday (tomorrow) before preparing for a meet at Melrose, Thursday, Dec. 16.
BKMS 136.1, Marshall 117.85
The Benson-KMS gymnastics team opened up the season in impressive style, winning a home meet against Marshall last Tuesday night, 136.1-117.85.
Leading the way was junior Libby McGeary, who placed first at state last year on the balance beam.  McGeary won the all-around with a score of 36.1, while also winning the four individual events.
Ninth-grader Lexie Hoberg also had a great meet in her first varsity competition, placing third in the all-around with a score of 31.6.
Benson-KMS dominated all four events, including the uneven bars, where the Fighting Braves placed first through fifth.
McGeary won the vault (9.35), bars (8.35), balance beam (9.15), and floor exercise (9.25) and appeared in mid-season form despite it being the first meet of the season.  Hoberg was also third on the floor (8.55), and fourth on the bars (7.65) and vault (8.5).
Torie Andrews placed second for BKMS on the vault (8.9), and was also fourth on the floor (8.4) and fifth on the bars (7.15), while Taylor Rohner-Swart was second on the bars (8.1), Elise Duncan was second on the bars (8.1) and third on the beam (8.3), and Gwen Wilcox added a second on the beam (8.65) and fourth on the floor (8.0). Also competing on the varsity team were Olivia Noble and Emma Krusemark.
Marshall was led by Cameen McFarquahar, who was second in the all-around with a score of 32.3.
